At the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next month, General Motors will unveil the 2011 GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept, a study into “heavy-duty truck capability combined with greater off-road versatility.”
“The capability-enhancing attributes of the Sierra All Terrain HD build on the already outstanding capabilities offered in the all-new production Sierra HD trucks,” said Lisa Hutchinson, GMC product marketing director. “Although it is strictly a concept, it is a pretty realistic one.”
Power for the 2011 GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept comes from a 6.6L Duramax turb0-diesel engine making 397-hp and 765 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a Allison 1000 six-speed automatic, the GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept has a Maximum towing capacity (fifth-wheel hitch) of 15,600 lbs.
To become an off-roading monster, the GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept features a 5-foot, eight-inch Crew Cab/short box body configuration that supports a wheels-at-the-corners proportion. With a shorter overall length than production Sierra HD models, the concept’s dimensions contribute to greater departure angles. Other off-roading gear includes a wider 73-unch track for extra stability, 3-inches of ground clearance, custom front upper and lower control arms, front and rear jounce shocks, electronic front stabilizer bar and 35-inch-tall BFGoodrich KM2 “mud terrain” tires mounted on 20-inch machined aluminum wheels.
