No Nissan has no plans to produce it, but the Nissan Ellure does provide a strong hint at where the company’s future design for sedans is headed.
“While not intended as a preview of any upcoming production model, Ellure confirms Nissan’s intention to be a strong player in the sedan segment for many years to come,” said Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president and chief creative officer at Nissan. “As an expression of our long-term vision for the next generation of great Nissan sedans, Ellure allows us to introduce a new sedan concept – one that honors the sedan’s unmatched daytime functionality, yet has a more emotive, almost hidden ambience that comes to life after dark. It’s an ideal fit for the needs of its projected owners, women in their ‘30s and ‘40s with a sense of sophistication and rebellion.”
What does the hybrid sticker on the back of the Nissan Ellure mean? Well, that’s because it’s a hybrid and not some high-tech all electric sedan like the Nissan LEAF. Power for the Nissan Ellure Concept comes from a supercharged 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with Intelligent Dual Clutch Control and a 25W electric-motor mated to a Xtronic CVT transmission. It features front-wheel-drive, regenerative braking, independent suspension, a drive-by-wire electric/hydraulic steering and many more green technologies that make it a fuel-efficient sedan.
Oh and the Nissan Ellure Concept also carries the “PURE DRIVE” badge, which the Japanese automaker will now use to indicate low fuel-consumption, low CO2 levels and all the other green technology you can think of.
