Honda roept 528.000 auto’s terug



Honda roept 528.000 auto's terug naar de garage. De auto's hebben een defect aan de buis die remvloeistof moet bevatten, zo meldt een woordvoerster. De actie komt een dag nadat Toyota 1,5 miljoen wagens terug heeft geroepen wegens een soortgelijk defect. De betrokken buizen van beide Japanse merken komen van dezelfde leverancier, Advics uit Ohio.

Door het mankement zouden de auto's slecht kunnen remmen. Tot dusver zijn geen ongevallen bekend, aldus Honda. De terugroepactie betreft de modellen Acura RL (bij ons verkocht als Legend) en Odyssey (foto) die in 2005 tot 2007 zijn gemaakt in de Honda fabriek in het Japanse Saitama. De meeste van deze auto’s zijn geëxporteerd naar de Verenigde Staten. Eigenaren krijgen bericht over gratis reparatie van het buisje.

NHTSA praises automakers for speedy recalls, points out Toyota’s progress

The head of the NHTSA praised automakers, on Thursday for the expedience with which they have been recalling flawed vehicles, singling out ToMoCo. Despite the NHTSA increasing the pace of its investigations, agency chief David Strickland says that the core DNA of how the agency does business has not changed.

“We are now seeing the manufacturers stepping up, looking harder at their own decisions,” Strickland said, adding that automakers are making “the right decisions in terms of safety and consumers.”

Last week, Strickland met with representatives from the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the trade association that represents Detroit’s three automakers, Toyota, and eight other manufacturers. A spokesperson for the group said that the organization and the NHTSA have the same goal in mind.

The past 12 months have been turbulent in terms of auto recalls, as 15 million vehicles have been recalled over the course of about 500 separate campaigns this year, including the much-ballyhooed Toyota sudden acceleration fiasco.

BMW recalls over 150,000 vehicles over faulty high-pressure fuel pump



Following a segment on ABC News on the high-pressure fuel pump on its twin-turbocharged N54 inline 6-cylinder engine, BMW has decided to issue a voluntary emissions and safety recall.

“BMW of North America has notified the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of its intent to conduct a voluntary recall of some model year 2007-2010 BMWs equipped with twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines, all of which feature BMW’s High Precision Injection direct fuel injection system,” the company said in a statement. ” It has also asked for approval from the California Air Resources Board to conduct this action. Affected vehicles may experience a failure of the high-pressure fuel pump.”

BMW said that symptoms include long-crank engine starting times along with the “Service Engine Soon” light coming on. In some cases, the driver may experience reduced engine performance in a Safe Mode accompanied by a tone and the illumination of the “Engine Malfunction” light.

Around 130,000 vehicles are potentially affected with about 40,000 expected to require a new high pressure fuel pump. Affected models include:

* MY 2007–2010 335i models.
* MY 2008–2010 135i, 535i and X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity Coupes.
* MY 2009 – 2010 Z4 Roadster sDrive35i.

The recall also includes about 20,800 MY 2008 X5 Sports Activity units equipped with normally-aspirated inline six-cylinder engines to replace the low-pressure fuel pump.

Nissan recalls 2.2 million vehicles worldwide, 747,000 in the U.S.



Nissan is recalling 2.2 million vehicles worldwide, which includes 747,000 pickups and SUVs in the United States due to a risk of failure to the electrical systems. Nissan said that the recall includes model year 2004 to 2006 Nissan Armadas and Titans, 2005 and 2006 Infiniti QX56 models along with Nissan Frontiers, Pathfinders and Xterras from August 2003 and June 2006

To fix the issue, Nissan said that it needs to replace the electrical relays in the engine control modules, the computer that controls engine performance and other essential motor components.

Nissan said that in some cases the engine may stall.

“Silicon vapor may form inside the electrical relay that supplies voltage to the engine control module,” Nissan said. “Over time, this vapor could create oxidation on the electrical contacts in the relay that may lead to engine performance issues, including the possibility of stalling at low engine speeds.”
